 Challenging Convention

The University of California at Berkeley, long considered ground zero challenging conventional thought, is at it again.  The architect for UC Berkeley's new Stanley Hall, Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, wanted simple, elegant soffits made from cedar, but the fire code said no to solid wood.  Undaunted, they called Contact Industries.

By leveraging their industry leading profile wrapping technologies, Contact and ZGF were able to overcome the fire rating dilemma with a notion befitting a progressive institution such as UC Berkeley: wrapping thin wood veneer over metal soffits.  The result was a custom-formed aluminum and expectations.  Some things are just worth fighting for.  Style happens to be one them.
