Solid white oak just wasn’t going to work for these window blinds—too heavy for the louver mechanism and too dimensionally unstable for the window location. But the designer insisted so Taylormade Joinery turned to UK-based distributor Timbmet for help coming up with a solution. Timbmet called Contact and Contact worked with an aluminum extruder to create louvers in the specified shape and sizes. A little adhesive innovation later, the white-oak wrapped aluminum louvers were ready to ship. Installed they are indistinguishable from solid oak. Ingenious.
